The zone covers an area including Grange Road, Teesdale Gardens, South Norwood Hill, Sylvan Hill, Auckland Rise, Auckland Road, Church Road and Upper Beulah Hill.
Police say that over the last few months there has been an increase in 'anti social behaviour' calls to shops at the top of South Norwood Hill and in the Beulah Hill area.
"This anti social behaviour has been by a group of youths attending the area and harassing local shops owners and residents by congregating around local flats.
"They have been smoking drugs, causing criminal damage and causing alarm and distress to local residents and business owners".
The new zone replaces one successfully introduced in July last year following major anti-social activity centred on Harold Road. In the wake of that order being introduced two families moved out of the borough.
The order gives police the power to give the following directions:
- Tell people in the group to disperse (either immediately or at a stated time and in a stated way).
- Tell people who don’t live in the affected area to leave (either immediately or at a stated time and in a stated way).
- Tell people who don’t live in the affected area not to return to the affected area or any part of it for such period (not exceeding 24 hours) from when the direction was given, as he / she may specify.
To contravene a direction is an offence under Section 32 of the Anti-social Behaviour Act 2003, punishable by 3 months imprisonment and / or a fine not exceeding £2,500.
