Toilets at Crystal Palace Parade bus station not for public use

E-mail Print PDF

loosFor the past 10 years of so, the only public toilets in the area have been at the Bus Station in Crystal Palace Parade.

Now these facilities have been restricted for the use of Transport for London staff only.

It is disgusting and thoughtless that an essential facility has been withdrawn from the public in this way.

What, I ask , are the general public supposed to do if they have an urgent call of nature? Risk prosecution by doing it against a tree or a wall?

Happily, I've never had to resort to this myself, nor do I suffer from prostate problems, but what of people who do? And what of women who need to change their babies.

No, this is not good enough!

If you want more people to come to the area - provide the appropriate facilities for ALL - not just bus drivers!

Suppose I should not be surprised, as this is typical of the way our thoughtless, heartless and increasingly useless society is going!

I would be interested to hear if anyone has started a campaign or a petition about this issue. If not, I may start one myself, though I will need some guidance as to how to go about it.

Howard .. and everyone! there is a national petition at http://epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/15258 Until local authorities are legally obliged to provide public toilets one fears that the cuts and closures will just continue

You can always to into one of the many pubs or restaurants, buy a drink and use their facilities. These would be cleaner and safer than any 'public' convenience in the street, surely.

The toilets behind the Phoenix Centre are open & are free to use. I have walked past @ 7pm & they have still been open.

I asked at the bus station and they told me it was closed on police advice due to drug taking. Nothing to do with any other kind of anti-social behaviour, which, as noted by others, I have never ever seen at this site. What annoys me is why the police would advise this action. Even if drug taking does take place here occasionally, why should the rest of us have to suffer with the withdrawal of the facilities? It just seems a cheaper way for the police to act - why bother to patrol it, just close it. Surely we pay the police to ensure our environment is safe so we can go about our business, not to have them say we can't be bothered, close it?

I agree with Howard wholeheartedly' about the selfish people in authority not thinking about us, the public who need to use the toilet. I hardly go shopping in Crystal Palace, as I go to Bromley or Croydon. At least there are public toilets around. Even the Sainsburys stores in Bromley and Croydon have these essential faciltities. Not everyone has strong bladders!

It's easy to say go behind a tree. This is bloody uncivilised. But who can blame people who do when the very infrastructure of a civilized society is being eroded by Mickey Mouse Councils like Bromley?

People should go behind the trees like everyone else seems to do. There is enough evidence of human waste, plus used toilet paper, behind trees and bushes.

I certainly would not take a young child to this filthy, horrible park. Full of frankenstein 'staffs' and their equally bovine so called owners.

I was amused to see that the Gents WC at the Parade bus station was closed today - even to Transport for London staff.
Due to vandalism is what the notice said!

Tut tut, you bus-drivers - if you carry on vandalising your own toilets like this, you also will be denied the facilities to take a leak!

Which is probably what Bromley Council want, as if the WCs are completely closed, they can let it for yet another poncy coffee bar!

Howie.

I have now received two replies from the Mayor of London, who informs me that the toilets are owned by the Bromley Council - the same Councuil that wants to close the Library, and which has already destroyed business in the area by the imposition of a one-way traffic system some years ago!

I am further informed that the closure to the public was a joint decision made by Bromley Council & Transport For London, on the grounds of 'public safety', due to acts of anti-social behaviour and acts of vandalism.

Sorry, but this doesn't ring true to me - sounds like the stock 'reasons' authorities roll out whenever they want to save money by closing essential facilities!

I have never seen any vandalism at these toilets, or anti-social behaviour, 'though I've seen plenty of Police hanging about nearby on occasion. Have you?

No, I think Bromley Council are taking what we are denied facilities to do!

There used to be a public wc by Sainburys & the Phoenix Centre - NOW CLOSED, and one opposite the Bus Station - also NOW CLOSED. There IS a toilet in the Phoenix Centre, despite their lying notice that there isn' t - I''ve used this one myself when attending the monthly market there.

GET REAL you people responsible - as human beings we all sometimes need somewhere to relieve ourselves when nature calls. It's part of being human. damn you!

Perhaps you people never need to relieve yourselves, which means you are NOT human!
